Jerry Lee Rizer

Jerry Lee Rizer, 66, of Elizabethtown, KY, passed away Thursday April 15, 2017. He was born January 13, 1951 in Marion, OH, to the late Osa and Carol VanBuskirk Rizer. Jerry is survived by his wife of 32 years, Karen, his five children, Julie Rizer Marr (Dennis), John Rizer (Dawn), Brian Bailey, Pat Bailey (Crystal), and Amber Bailey Grimm (Jason); 13 grandchildren, Christian Graham (Julie), Ryne Graham (Julie), Preston Rizer (John), Skyler Rizer (John), Isabella Skipworth (John), Ethan Grimm (Amber), Kira Grimm (Amber), Emma Grimm (Amber), Eli Grimm (Amber), and unborn Braxton Grimm (Amber), Austin Miller (Pat), Beth Miller (Pat), and Gavin Miller (Pat). Over the last thirty-five years, Jerry owned and operated several Dairy Queens. He purchased his first Dairy Queen from the late Richard Hart in Elizabethtown on South Mulberry in 1982 and added the second store in Elizabethtown several years later, but also owned and operated with the assistance of his cousin and business partner Bob VanBuskirk, two in Bowling Green, and one in Cave City, until their closure. Jerry also started Amazin Glazin Donuts with his son John in February 2006. Jerry was very active in the Dairy Queen Operators Association (DQOA), serving on the board in various positions. He held the offices of treasurer, vice president and president of the DQOA/DQOC board of directors during his more than 20 years of service. He also served as vice president and president of the Kentucky chapter of DQOA and Designated Marketing Area (DMA) chairman and region vice chairman to the Franchisee Advisory Council (FAC). Jerry and his wife, Karen, also served the DQOA/DQOC as "designated observers" to the FAC. A memorial service will be held on Wednesday at 1: 00 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Roger Jasper officiating. In lieu of flowers memorial gifts may be made in Jerry's memory to Hosparus 105 Deicks Dr. Elizabethtown, KY 42701, Memo in Memory of Jerry Rizer.
