Kenneth Lee Stivers

Kenneth Lee Stivers, 88, passed away on February 26, 2017, in Bowling Green. Ken (or Kenny, or KL, or "Stick", depending on the acquaintance) was born in Muldraugh, Kentucky, the middle of seven children and the middle of three sons. He graduated from Elizabethtown High School in 1947, served in the U.S. Army and worked for the L&N Railroad (later CSX) for over 42 years, starting in Elizabethtown before serving assignments in Louisville, Hazard, Knoxville, Louisville again, and Bowling Green, making numerous friends along the way. Following his railroad years, Ken was supremely successful during many years of retirement: always enjoying the outdoors when possible, whether fishing, gardening, golfing, or projecting around the house. When forced indoors by Kentucky winters, he resorted to winemaking, woodworking, and honing his pool game, while always watching or planning his schedule around the next UK basketball game. He was a delightful and fun-loving man, a wonderful husband, father, grandfather, great-grandfather and friend, who will be missed by all who knew him. He was preceded in death by his parents, Jefferson Beauregard Stivers and Lillian Jones Stivers; his brothers, Russell Stivers and Sherl Stivers; and sisters, Anita Mills, Helen Vick, and Blanche Laufer. He is survived by his loving wife of 62 years, Suzanne Ashcraft Stivers; five children, Mike Stivers, Palm Springs, California; Lynne Stivers, Lancaster, Pennsylvania; Greg (Alicia) Stivers, Bowling Green; Patty (Mike) Hume, Louisville; and David (Julie) Stivers, Lexington; one sister, Barbara (Frank) Page, Port Orange, Florida; fourteen grandchildren and one great grandchild, all of whom adored him. Visitation is scheduled for Friday, March 3, 2017, from 11:00 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home, in Elizabethtown. The funeral will be held at 1:30 p.m. at the funeral home, with Rev.
