John David Stroop

John David "J.D." Stroop, 45 of Elizabethtown, died Monday, January 2, 2017 at Hardin Memorial Hospital. He was a native of Dayton, OH, a graduate of Knox Central High School and Eastern Kentucky University. J. D. was a member of Kentucky National Guard and served two tours in Iraq where he received a Bronze Star and a Combat Action Badge. He graduated from the Kentucky State Police Academy and interned with NSA. He retired from the Kentucky National Guard and the Kentucky State Police. He was preceded in death by his father, Rev. Robert David Stroop. He is survived by his wife of six years, Stacie Clark Stroop; two daughters, Riley Belle Stroop and Halle Rena Stroop; three step children, Shelbey Rodgers, Matthew Musgrave and Emma Musgrave; his mother, Ida Stroop all of Elizabethtown; two brothers, Nasby R. (Kathy) Stroop of Frankfort and James W. (Charlene) Stroop of Versailles, IN; one sister, Janice (Randy) Bright of Lexington and several nieces and nephews. The funeral will be Friday at 9 a.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Shane Duvall officiating. Burial will follow in the Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central in Radcliff. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Thursday at the Church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of Contributions to Trooper Island or the scholarship fund for his children at The Cecilian Bank.
