Irene C. Levya

Irene C. Levya lost her battle with cancer on August 5, 2016. She was 73. Born to Portuguese immigrants Antonio B. and Anna C. Martins, Irene was the youngest of three children. She was born and raised in Framingham, MA where she graduated from Framingham High School in 1961. After a short time at Johnson State Teachers College, Irene left college to marry James P. Levya (deceased). With Jim, she had three daughters, leaving Massachusetts to live in Washington, Maryland, Alabama, Mississippi and finally, Kentucky. Later in life, Irene returned to college receiving her Bachelors of Science in 1992 from the University of Louisville. She is preceded into death by her parents and her sister Natalie (Flitcroft). Irene is survived by her brother Vasco (Elizabeth) Martins of Reston, VA and their children; her daughters Katherine Rodman (Thomas), Sharon Gilbert (Jason) and Kristen Kirsch (Brian); and her grandchildren Samantha Rodman, Paige Rodman and James Gilbert. A memorial service will be held on Saturday September 3 at 3:00 pm at First Presbytarian Church. Memorial donations in memory of Irene can be made to the Presbyterian Young Adult Volunteer program.
