Amos Lewis Bloyd

Amos Lewis Bloyd, 90, of Louisville, passed away Tuesday, July 19, 2016. He was born Feb. 22, 1926, in Green County, to the late Grady and Gracie Beams Bloyd. After the death of his mother, he and his younger brother, Forrest Bloyd, were raised by their loving grandparents, the late John Lewis and Beulah Bloyd. He proudly served with the 4th Infantry Division in the European Theater during World War II. He was wounded in April 1945 and received the Bronze Star, Combat Infantry Badge, Purple Heart and other medals. After his service, he graduated from Campbellsville College and attended Western Kentucky University. He moved his family to Louisville where he had a 35-year career as the parts manager for Whayne Supply Co. During that time, he served as a deacon for Grace Baptist Church. A Kentucky Colonel, he was active in the Republican Party. He and his wife, Dorothy, retired to Elizabethtown, where he was a faithful member of Severns Valley Baptist Church. They returned to Louisville to be near family, where he joined First Baptist Church in Mount Washington. Amos was preceded in death by a granddaughter, Michelle May Frailly; and a brother, Forrest Edward Bloyd. Suvivors include his devoted wife of nearly 70 years, Dorothy May Hall; two children, Danny Bloyd (Debby) and Judy Frailly (Dan); three grandchildren, Amy Robinson (Bill), Gina Payton (Tim) and Michael Bloyd (Heather); five great-grandchildren, Andrew and Ian Robinson, Shane, Hunter and Whitney Bloyd; a sister, Berneda Bloyd Wright; and numerous nieces and nephews. The funeral is at 11:30 a.m. Friday, July 22, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Brother Billy Compton officiating. Burial will follow in Kentucky Veterans Cemetery Central. Visitation is from 3 to 8 p.m. today and continues at 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Hoparus of Louisville.
