David Russell Buchanan

David Russell Buchanan, 83, of Elizabethtown passed away Thursday, April 7, 2016 at his home. He was born in 1932 in Louisville, Ky to the late George Bryan and Reba Gardner Buchanan. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church. He was a graduate of Elizabethtown High School and obtained his degree in education from Florida State University in 1957. He coached basketball at Lynnvale HIgh School before working with Taylor-Overall Realtors. He then worked as a branch manager for First Federal Bank. In 1965, he started Buchanan Real Estate and was in business for over 40 years. He was a co-developer of Four Seasons and Lakeshire subdivisions. He was a 45+ year member of the Board of Realtors, past Realtor of the Year and member of the Rotary Club. He was an Elizabethtown Country Club Champion in 1967 and also winner of the City Par 3 golf tournament. He enjoyed playing and watching all sprts with his children and grandchildren and could always be counted on to give a helpful tip. He also coached peanut and little league baseball. He was an avid card player and played couples bridge and poker with his friends for many years. He was preceded in death by his wife; Nancy Belle Ahler, a sister; Sue Saufley, and a brother; Don Buchanan. He is survived by two daughters; Kristin (Scott) Fiepke, Susan (Drew) Augenstein and a son; Steven Buchanan, his grandchildren; Ann Lauren, Natalie, Paul, and Meg Fiepke, Caroline, JOhn and Claire Augenstein; sister in law; Arnita Buchanan and brother in law; George Saufley. The family would like to thank Steve Wiseman for his friendship and support especially over the last two years. A funeral mass is a 1:00 pm Monday, April 11 at St. James Catholic Church in Elizabethtown. Burial follows in St. James Cemetery. Visitation begins at 10:00 am Monday.
