Betty Gregory Elmore Coats

Betty Gregory Elmore Coats, 78 of Elizabethtown, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by her family on Sunday, March 6, 2015. She was born October 3, 1937 in Campbellsville and was a member of Berean Baptist Church. She was a retired educator and taught many students over the years in schools in Elizabethtown, Hardin County, Meade County and Leitchfield, most recently at St. James and GC Burkhead Elementary Schools. Her life was devoted to loving and caring for her family and friends. Her passion and love for Jesus sustained her throughout her life and was reflected in her service at Berean Baptist Church, Gideons International and the Hardin County Jail Ministry. She leaves a legacy of love and joy to all whose lives she touched. She was preceded in death by her parents, Arthur Hugh "Red" Gregory Jr. and Frances Bertram Gregory; her first husband, Jimmy Alvin Elmore; and a brother, Arthur Hugh Gregory III. She is survived by her husband, Cletus Coats; daughters, Denise Elmore Clements (Philip) of Louisville, and Terese Elmore Pace (Mark) of Elizabethtown; sons, Stephen G. Elmore of Arlington, VA, and W. Thad Elmore (Kim) of Elizabethtown; and stepson, Stuart Coats (Anna) of Louisville. She was Meme to 14 Grandchildren, Seth Clements (Sarah), Karsten Clements (Tiffany), Jimmy Kev Clements, Katie Pace, Brennan Pace (Lauren), Hillary Pace, Hayley Murphy (Anthony), Eleanore Pace, Jared Pace, Rebecca Pace, Carter Elmore, Mary Katherine Elmore, Clayton Elmore and Georgia Coats and 7 great grandchildren; sisters, Jane Burnett (Duke) of Elizabethtown, Nina Jones (Alan) of Elizabethtown, Frances Gregory of Louisville, and Janet Gregory of Louisville; sisters-in-law, Linda Gregory Burke (Jim) of Brandenburg, June Thornberry Raine (Frank) of Elizabethtown, Sue Reed of Hodgenville and Marie Coats of Cave City; brother-in-law, William Owen Elmore (Liz) of Dandridge, TN and many special nieces and nephews. A Celebration of Life will be Wednesday at 11 a.m. at Memorial United Methodist Church with Bro. Randy Logsdon, Bro. Jim Webster and Bro. David Waddle officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home and continue after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the church.
