Dorothy Owen

Dorothy Spencer Owen, 94, of Elizabethtown, died peacefully Thursday, December 10, 2015 at Hardin Memorial Hospital after a short illness. She was a native of Hardin County, having grown up on Mud Splash Road. She was a devoted member of Severns Valley Baptist Church, where she was in the Good Samaritan Sunday School Class. She was active in various organizations; Past President of the Elizabethtown Woman's Club where she was instrumental in the preservation and beautification of the Elizabethtown City Cemetery, member of the Lincoln Heritage China Painters, Woman's Missionary Union state board member, and an avid participant in several local bridge clubs. She was preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years, Charles Laron Owen Jr.; her parents, D. Brooks and Mollie Spencer; three brothers, Edward Spencer, Walter Spencer and Russell Spencer and two sisters, Edna Colyer and Fran Turnbach. Dorothy was a loving mother and doting grandmother. She is survived by her three sons, Charles (Anita) Owen, Robert (Beverly) Owen and Bill (Carolyn) Owen, all of Elizabethtown, six grandchildren and seven great grandchildren. The funeral will be Tuesday at 11:00 am at Brown Funeral Home with Dr. Billy Compton officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown City Cemetery. Visitation will be Monday from 5-8 pm and continue after 9:00 am Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home. The family requests expressions of sympathy be made to the donor's favorite charity.
