Giula Woosley Mercer

Giula Woosley Mercer, 95 of Elizabethtown, passed peacefully Wednesday, November 4, 2015 with her daughter by her side. Giula was better known as Guy to her friends and family. Her first job was at Ken-Rad in Owensboro, KY, making wires for light bubs. When the war broke out, she worked for Chrysler Corp making ammunition. She met James E. Mercer at a quaint little dance spot called Twin Oaks in Owensboro, they both loved to dance. They married on June 13, 1941 and were married for 69 years until his death in 2010. She became a homemaker and mother to four children, a grandmother of seven and a great grandmother of 13. She was a member of Memorial United Methodist Church. In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by her parents, Robert Carl and Callie B. Woosley and two grandsons, Byron S. Pearl and J.D. Cruse. She leaves behind a daughter and her caregiver, Pam Mercer of Vine Grove, a daughter, Lisa Cruse (Rick) of TN; two sons, Robert O. Mercer (Evelyn) of MO and James P. Mercer (Sherry) of TN; a loving sister, Leona Austin of Calhoun and a beloved niece, Dora Ellen Austin of Hardinsburg. She will be dearly missed by her family, friends and her church friends. The funeral will be Saturday at 2 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Bro. Tim Mercer officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Friday and continue after 11 a.m. Saturday at the funeral home. Condolences may be expressed online at www.brownfuneral.com.
