Willis Griffin Pruitt

Willis Griffin Pruitt, 78 of Elizabethtown, died Monday, October 5, 2015 at his home. He was a native of Leitchfield and a member of St. James Catholic Church. He retired from the Army as a SGM after 28 1/2 years of service. He served during Vietnam and received the Bronze Star for bravery and served many years of his career in Germany. He retired from Reese Food Brokerage in Nashville, earned his Associates Degree from E'town Vocational School, was a former member of the Radcliff Masonic Lodge and was a member of the American Legion Post #113. He was an avid fisherman, gardner and loved the outdoors. He was preceded in death by his parents, 6 siblings, a very special grandson, James Willis Stone and two great grandchildren, Gage Warren Pruitt and Paityn Rose Johnson. He is survived by his wife of 54 years, Ursula A. Pruitt; two daughters, Michele Pruitt Engelhardt (Ronald) of Huntsville, AL and Scarlett Yvonne Davis of Cecilia; one brother, Jesse D. Pruitt (Shirley) of Louisville; one sister, Laverne Pruitt Greenwell of Louisville; seven grandchildren, Charles David Pruitt, Christopher Willis Pruitt, Nastassja K. Pruitt, Nicolette K. Pruitt, Jacob H. C. Johnson, Laci K. Lankford and Jessy N. A. Stone; seven great grandchildren, Emily A. Pruitt, Samuel T. Pruitt, Juliahna R. Pruitt, Kylie Rae, Alyssa Jade, Lexi Rose and Elijah LaRue; a special family friend, Jordan C. Howell; a special fishing buddy, Jacob Pruitt and his family in Germany, Marlene, Kirsten, Gunter, Gitta, Volker and Thomas. The funeral will be Thursday at 1:00 p.m. at St. James Catholic Church with Rev. Shane Duvall and Rev. Steve Hohman officiating. Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and continue after 9 a.m. Thursday at Brown Funeral Home. A Graveside service will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens.
