James Lee "Jim" Jones, 85, of Elizabethtown, died Sunday, August 30, 2015, at Helmwood Healthcare. He was born in Amarillo, TX and a charter member of Berean Baptist Church. He was a Corporal in the United States Army having served during the Korean War. He was the owner of Jones IGA for 26 years, served in jail ministry, and did mission trips for his church overseas. He was an honorary Kentucky Colonel, and served with the Gideons for many years. He was preceded in death by 2 brothers; Joseph Jones and Leon Jones and parents, Stanley and Mary Lottie Ray Jones. He is survived by his wife of 63 1/2 years, Gloria Mae Jones; 2 daughters, Debbie (Dan) Holt of Lexington, Sandy (Rex) Nevitt of Elizabethtown, 4 grandchildren Jason (Amanda) Nevitt, Aaron (Michelle) Nevitt, James Andrew "Andy" (Tiffany) Holt, Matthew (Shannon) Holt, 4 step grandchildren; Diane (Don) Riddell, Danny (Jeannie) Holt, Alvie Holt, Janet (Brandon) Johnson. 3 great grandchildren; Isabella Holt, Joseph Braden Nevitt, James Parker Nevitt. 9 step great grandchildren; David Holt, Chris Snowdy, Dustin Snowdy, Chad Snowdy, Danielle Holt, Brennan Johnson, Gabrielle McCarty, Nicole Johnson and Cody Eary. The funeral is at 1:00 pm Thursday, September 3 at Berean Baptist Church with Rev. Randy Jones and Bro. Randy Logsdon officiating. Burial will follow at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 4-8 pm Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home and continue after 11 am Thursday at the church.
