Rictor Marlise Blanton

Rictor "Rick" Blanton, 82, of Elizabethtown, passed away Sunday, August 2, 2015, at Norton Healthcare Pavilion in Louisville. Rick was a loving husband, father, brother, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend to many. He was a dedicated member of Shepherdsville General Baptist Church and a member of the Morrison Masonic Lodge #76 F&AM. He loved studying his Bible and greatly enjoyed listening to gospel music. Rick was passionate about spreading the good news to all those he encountered. He is most remembered for his commitment to God and family. It brought him great joy to spend time with his loving wife and grandchildren, whether it was by fishing, gardening, or just visiting. They held a special place in his heart, and he in theirs. Rick was an adamant believer in the value of hard work, and spent 27 years working for GE as a maintenance man. After retiring, he enjoyed learning new things and keeping his mind sharp with puzzles and riddles. Few things made him happier than teasing and joking around- anything to put a smile on your face. He had a way of bringing new perspectives to every conversation, and was always willing to share the wisdom gained through his experiences in life. He was a guiding light to his family, and will be sorely missed. He was preceded in death by his parents, Thomas and Alice Blanton; first wife, Pearl Blanton; daughter, Sandy; sister, Louise Blanton; and four brothers, Edsel, William Hayden, Virgil and Owen Blanton. Survivors include his loving wife of 26 years, Shelby Blanton; two sisters, Francis Griffey and Agnes King; a son, Jeff (Mary) Blanton; two step-daughters, Paula Evans and Karen Kinney; six grandchildren, Wayne (Christine) Blanton, Tom (Ali) Blanton, April (Barry) Hinds, Christopher Evans, and Kelsey and Andrew Kenney; and three great-grandchildren, Cheyanne and Halee, Blanton and Ava Hinds; and many nieces, nephews and cousins. The funeral will be 12 p.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Marty Tucker officiating. Burial will follow in Slate Bank Cemetery in Brownsville. Visitation will be from 4 p.m. to 8 p.m. on Tuesday and continue after 11 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. There will be a Masonic Service at 7 p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home.
