Louise Carrier Jarrett

Louise Carrier Jarrett, 91, of Elizabethtown, passed away June 16th at Helmwood Healthcare Center in Elizabethtown. Louise was born in Louisville on February 27, 1924 to the Honorable Chester O. and Edna Carrier of Leitchfield. She was a graduate of Leitchfield High School and her Father, Chester, served for years as County Attorney of Grayson County and was elected to serve as Congressman for the 4th District which included Hardin County during World War II. Louise attended Centre College in Danville, KY for 2 years and then located to Washington DC where she worked in her Father’s Congressional office. It was there that she met her husband, David D. Jarrett, who was an officer in the Army Air Corps. They married before he deployed to Europe. After the war, they moved to Louisville where David attended U of L Law School. Following his graduation, they moved from Louisville to Elizabethtown where she worked in his law office until his untimely death in 1962. She then worked as a secretary for the Hardin County School District. She also served as Vice Chair of the Hardin County Republican Party and worked on the gubernatorial campaign of Louie B. Nunn. Louise moved to Louisville in 1972 to be near her daughter who was a student at U of L. She later moved to Seminole, FL. in 1981 to care for her Mother, returning to Elizabethtown in 1989. Louise was a Kentucky Colonel and a member of St. Timothy’s Anglican Church in Elizabethtown. Until 2005 she was a member of Christ Church in Elizabethtown and served on the Alter Guild. She was preceded in death by her parents and her husband. She is survived by a son, David C. Jarrett of Elizabethtown; a daughter, Dr. Diane D. Jarrett (Seth Copeland) of Atlanta, GA.; a grand-daughter, Emily Jarrett Copeland of Wellington, FL: a sister, Mary Alice Winn (Ted) of Lawrenceburg, KY and a niece, Julie Eaton (Jeff) of Lawrenceburg, KY. Visitation is from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm on Thursday, June 18th at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. Visitation begins again at 10:00 am on Friday, June 19th followed by a funeral service at 11:00 am at Brown Funeral Home and burial at 12:15 pm at Hardin Memorial Park on North Miles St. in Elizabethtown. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to the Alzheimer’s Foundation of America or St. Timothy’s Anglican Church, 56 Public Square in Elizabethtown.
