Norman L. Jones

Norman Lee Jones, 87, of Elizabethtown, passed away Saturday, July 12, 2014 at Jewish Hospital in Louisville. He was a charter member of Elizabethtown Baptist Church, a deacon emeritus, and a Sunday School teacher for many years. He was a member of Elizabaethtown Lions Club since 1957 where he served as past president and was District Governor. He enjoyed serving his community through the Lions Club. He served in the Merchant Marines during WWII and owned and operated Standard Oil Bulk Plant in Elizabethtown before retiring. He was an avid golfer and enjoyed time spent with his golf buddies. He was a graduate of Vine Grove High school. He was a kind and generous man who loved his family and friends and was a devoted husband for 65 years. He was preceded in death by his parents, Raymond and Mabel Jones and his brother Bill Jones. He is survived by his wife, Norma Rogers Jones of Elizabethtown, a son, Terry (Kathy) Jones of Frankfort, two daughters, Elaine (David) Rogers and Susan (David) Rosenblatt all of Elizabethtown, a brother, Vernon (Dorothy) Jones and a sister, Phyllis (Carroll) McDonald both of Radcliff, seven grandchildren, Amy Baldwin, Wesley Hatfield, Emily Rosenblatt, Eric Rosenblatt, Alex Rosenblatt, Brian Jones and Brooke Jones, and six great grandchildren, Mason, Evie, Eliza, Vance, Lyla and Hayes. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday at Elizabethtown Baptist Church with Rev. Roger McGuffin officiating. Burial will follow at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation is 4 to 8 p.m. Monday and after 9 a.m. Tuesday at Brown Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made to the building fund at Elizabethtown Baptist Church or to Elizabethtown Lions Club. Condolences may be expressed online at www.brownfuneral.com.
