Dr. Michael L. Thomas

Dr. Michael Lee Thomas, 67, of Elizabethtown passed away on August 24, 2022 after a lengthy illness with Parkinsons Disease. After receiving his Bachelors Degree at the University of Kentucky, he was accepted into the Veterinary Medicine Program at Auburn University from which he graduated in 1981. He joined the veterinary practice at E-town Animal Hospital and retired in 2017 after serving the community for 36 years. He was a member of St. James Catholic Church, loved to garden and fish, was a previous board member for a local bank, volunteer for the Hardin County Library Garden, and an avid collector of antiques and memorabilia. He was preceded in death by his parents, Mack Edward Thomas and Wanda Boyd Thomas; his uncle RR (Babe) Thomas; his father-in-law Wilbur Thomas Ryan; two brothers-in-law, James Dennis Ryan and Edward Alan Nall. Survivors include his wife of 40 years, Celia Anne Ryan Thomas of Elizabethtown; his four daughters, Meghan Leigh Birkenhauer (Tommy), Rachel Anne Thomas Brown (JW), Sarah Elizabeth Thomas Nantz (Jacob), Amanda Michelle Caudill (Kory); seven grandkids, Beau Birkenhauer, Ryan Birkenhauer, Clay Birkenhauer, Annaleigh Caudill, Ellis Caudill, Edith Brown, and Evelyn Nantz; and two grandchildren on the way, Isaac Nantz and Norah Caudill; his brothers, Raymond Thomas (Donna), Ronnie Thomas (Denise), Donnie Thomas (Sandy); his mother-in-law, Anna Ryan; his favorite cousin Vicky Pendell (Dave); sisters-in-law Diane Nall, Karen Crewz (Dale), Pat Allen (Steve); brothers-in-law Rick Ryan (Debbie), Tommy Ryan (Suzanne), Roger Ryan (Dana), and many nephews and nieces. He also was blessed with the best friends anyone could ask for, Dennis and Amy Labriola. Mike was blessed with seven wonderful grandchildren who dearly loved their papaw. He will be deeply missed by his family and all those who knew and loved him. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Tuesday, August 30, 2022 at St. James Catholic Chuch. Visitation is Monday, August 29, 2022 from 4 to 8 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown and continues after 9 a.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. In light of the ongoing Covid-19 situation, masking is required. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to the Humane Society, Hosparus of Elizabethtown, or the Michael J.
