Hubert VanMeter, Jr., 91 of Elizabethtown, died Sunday, May 8, 2022 at Helmwood Health Care. He was a native of Hardin County and was retired from Gates Rubber Company where he worked in Maintenance. He was a member of the Local UAW 780 Union, an avid U of L fan and loved traveling and backroad rides with his daughter. He loved playing cards with his family, reading, especially Kentucky authors and history. He was preceded in death by Martha VanMeter; a son, Steven VanMeter; two son-in-laws, Ronnie Highbaugh and Mike Nunn; his parents, Hubert VanMeter, Sr. and Sue Ella Buckles VanMeter. Survivors include his daughter, Charlotte (Ron) Bragdon of Elizabethtown; step daughter, Stephanie Highbaugh of Buffalo; daughter-in-law, Charlotte Nunn of Horse Cave; grandchildren, Belinda (Todd) Hodges, Amanda Barney, Tommy (Joanne) Barney, Jessica and Jacob VanMeter, Daniel (Brianna) Highbaugh, Amber (Isaac) Buchanan and James Lee Nunn and six great grandchildren. A graveside service will be Wednesday at 2 p.m. at Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens with Rev. Daniel Talley officiating. Visitation will be from 12:30 to 1:45 pm Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home.
