Beth Darland

Beth Darland, 29, of Louisville, passed away April 27, 2022. She was born in Fairfield, IL and lived in Louisville, KY. She was a library clerk at the Southwest branch of the Louisville Free Public Library, a tough place to work for someone who loved to read as much as she did. She was a daughter, wife, and mother. Fiercely independent, Beth loved to go her own way and figure things out on her own. She wasnt afraid to be somewhere new, spending time traveling all over the US on road trips, living in Thailand for a summer as a teen, and going away to Chicago to go to college. She loved the outdoors, finding joy from being in the woods, on a river, or at the beach, and as a mother she always made sure spending time outside no matter the weather was in Olives routine. Along with love of the outdoors, she had a deep love for reading and learning. She was always working on reading several books though she was quick to put one down when she realized it wasnt any good finding comfort and escape in stories, as well as learning more about people and the world around her. A final love of Beth was a pursuit of fairness, justice, and compassion especially for children, driven by her faith in God and her desire for everyone to know Him. Beth always looked outward, noticing who wasnt included, who wasnt okay, who wasnt safe, who wasnt being taken care of. When things werent working for everyone, she worked to make things better. Beth is a victim of mental illness, someone whose disordered thoughts about herself took away the joy of life and made her believe it was unlivable. She struggled and fought to live a good life while never trusting in her own essential, God-given goodness. She will be profoundly and deeply missed by all who loved her and knew of her faith, her sweetness, her diligence, her compassion, her bravery, her desire for justice, and her great love for Olive and her family. She is survived by her husband of 6 years, Daniel Darland of Louisville; her daughter, Olive Darland; her parents, Vincent and Marilyn Coale of Rineyville; one brother, Robert Coale and his wife Georgia of Elizabethtown; her grandparents, James and Nancy Coale and Alice Garrett; three much loved nieces, Izzy, Maggie, and Audrey; many relatives and friends, and many many lives all around the world who she touched in some way. The funeral is 1 p.m. Monday, May 2, 2022, at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown with Rev. Neil Janes officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown City Cemetery. Visitation is Sunday from 2 to 6 p.m. at the funeral home and continues after 11 a.m. on Monday. Condolences may be expressed at brownfuneral.com.
