Suzanne Ashcraft Stivers

Suzanne Ashcraft Stivers passed away peacefully on June 19, 2021, after a brief illness. Susie was born in Louisville on July 22, 1935, to the late Seth and Ruby (McMurtry) Ashcraft. She was raised in Elizabethtown by her aunt Lillian McMurtry Parrish following her mother's death. After graduating from Elizabethtown High School in 1953, Susie married the love of her life, Kenneth Stivers, in 1955. While raising five children, they traveled through several assignments with the L&N Railroad, beginning in Louisville, then to Hazard, Knoxville, Louisville again, and finally Bowling Green, making many life-long friends along the way. After Ken retired in 1993, they returned to Elizabethtown, where Ken and Susie enjoyed their long and happy golden years. Susie was a voracious reader, who loved to cook, play bridge, follow UK athletics, and tend her flowers. She was also very grateful for the fellowship she experienced at First Christian Church. Susie was preceded in death by her husband; her parents; by "Aunt Lillie"; and her two "sisters", Barbara Parrish McMahan and Patsy Parrish Johnson. She is survived by her children: Mike Stivers, Palm Springs, Ca.; Lynne Smith (Dan), Lancaster, Pa.; Greg Stivers (Alicia), Bowling Green; Patty Hume (Mike), Mt. Washington; and David Stivers (Julie), Lexington; her sister, Mary Watts (Tom), Frankfort; fourteen grandchildren and ten great-grandchildren; and "Bud" her beloved cat. Visitation will be Saturday at 11:00 a.m. at First Christian Church, 1811 North Miles Street, Elizabethtown, with a memorial service to follow at 1:00. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the First Christian Church Elizabethtown.
