Joyce Abell Nichols

Joyce Abell Nichols, 85 of Elizabethtown, passed away Friday, April 2, 2021 at her home. She was a native of Hardin County and a member of Valley Creek Baptist Church. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Joyce started working as a waitress at the Moo Dairy Queen, checked groceries at Houchens Market and finally her most enjoyable job was a bus monitor on the school bus for Hardin County Schools. She clearly loved all her wonderful kids as one of her own. She was preceded in death by her husband, Walter Nichols; a grandson, Walton Grider; her parents, Elzie and Mary Abell and four sisters, Francis Kerr, Hazel Kerr, Dora Dean Masterson and Carolyn Sue Masterson and a brother, Shirley "Bud" Abell. Survivors include a son, Carl (Rena) Nichols; a daughter, Barbara Grider; grandchildren, Casey Nichols, Carla (Tim) Moore and Mia Nichols and great grandchildren, Dalton Moore, Cody Moore, Bailey Moore, Corbin Nichols and Olivia Nichols. The funeral will be at 1 p.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Scott Kerr officiating. Burial will follow in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation will be from 12 to 8 p.m. Tuesday and continue after 9 a.m. Wednesday at the funeral home. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of contributions to Valley Creek Baptist Church.
