Thomas Leon Eubank

Thomas Leon Eubank, 86, of Elizabethtown, passed away on Sunday, Sept.17, 2017 at his residence. He was born on June 11, 1931 in Monroe Co. to Clora and Clyde Eubank. After graduating from Tompkinsville High School, he attended Campbellsville Junior College for 2 years before transferring to Western Kentucky University where he received his B.S. and M.A. He spent 33 years as a teacher and counselor. He began his teaching career in Gamaliel, Ky. He moved to Elizabethtown in 1960 and after 24 yrs., he retired in 1984 as counselor of Elizabethtown High School. He also taught for the University of Kentucky, Western Ky. University and served as counselor at St. Romuald in Hardinsburg, Ky. After retiring, he resided in Monroe Co. He then moved to Port Charlotte, FL. for 20 years where he volunteered his counseling expertise to people affected by 4 hurricanes. He moved back to Elizabethtown in 2008. He served as President for 3 terms for the Fourth Education District Counselor’s Association. He served 1 term for the American Mental Health Counselor Assoc. and the American Assoc. for Counseling Development. He was elected by his peers as the Outstanding Educator for 2 years. Because of his dedication to students, one of his passions was to counsel students and assist them in getting scholarships if possible. He always tried to be available for the students. He believed in students and saw their potential sometimes when no one else did. Every student was special to him. He is preceded in death by his parents Clora and Clyde Eubank, a daughter, Pat Eubank French, and a grandson, Grant Thomas French. He is survived by one daughter, Carol Eubank Mellon (Mike) of Elizabethtown, one son, David Eubank ( Lisa) of Shelbyville, Ky. and a foster daughter Pon Phanbandith of Gallatin, TN. He has 3 grandchildren and 9 great grandchildren. He is also survived by his special friend and caregiver, Wanda Grimes Bruce. . There will be a Celebration of Life in the Commons Area of Elizabethtown High School from 1:00 pm-4:00 pm on Oct. 15, 2017. At 3:00 p.m. there will be an hour set aside for anyone wishing to speak on his behalf.
