Denver Holmes Woodring

Denver Holmes Woodring, 89, of Cecilia, passed away at Atria Senior Living on Monday, July 24, 2017. He was a native of Hardin County and a member of Cecilia Baptist Church where he was a former Deacon and Sunday School Superintendent. He was married to Faye E. Bush Woodring for 56 years until her passing in 2005. He served in the US Air Force for 24 years. He was a veteran of WWII, the Korean War, and the Vietnam War. He retired from the Air Force as a Chief Master Sergeant in 1969. Upon his retirement he opened and ran Cecilia Center Hardware and Lumber Yard. He then worked as a Small Business Management Consultant for the University of Kentucky for 19 years. He and his wife Faye were the founders of Cecilia Day in 1970, and he was the first President of the Cecilia Ruritan Club. He was a member of the Stephensburg Masonic Lodge #212. He helped with the Backpack Program at the Hardin County Extension Service. He was preceded in death by his wife, Faye; his daughter, Linda Will; his parents, William Luther and Mary Long Woodring; four siblings, George, Nellie, Roscoe, and Paul Woodring; and a son-in-law, Ronnie Cottrell. He is survived by two daughters, Barbara (Royce) Bunch of Elizabethtown and Debbie Cottrell of Lexington; son-in-law, Woody Will of Cecilia; two sisters, Violet Monroe of Cecilia and Mary Hazle of Elizabethtown; five grandchildren, Rachel Will, Megan (Matt) Barnes, Brianna Cottrell, April (Cory) Pence, and Woody (Amanda) Will; and ten great grandchildren: Mackenzie, Hailey, and Brody Will; Ann-Marie, Sara-Kate, and Mia-Claire Barnes; Coleman, Madeline, Hudson, and Owen Pence. He is also survived by special friend Mary Routt and the loving and caring Elizabethtown Atria staff and directors. The funeral will be Saturday at 11 a.m. at Cecilia Baptist Church with Rev. Arnold Moon officiating and Rev. Troy Richards assisting. Burial follows in Elizabethtown Memorial Gardens. Visitation is from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown, and continues after 9 a.m. Saturday at the church.
