James Edward "Jimmy" Dewitt, 88, of Elizabethtown, died January 21, 2017 at Helmwood Healthcare Center. He was a native of Marion County, a former member and Deacon Emeritus of Valley View Baptist Church, and a former farmer/carpenter at Mac Construction Company. After retirement he did carpentry work for his church and others and was a member of Indiana KY Ohio Regional Council of Carpenters Union. He was preceded in death by two wives, Virginia Nall and Betty Fox; his parents, Earl DeWitt and Hazel Whitlock Peterson; step fathers, Hardin Peterson and Alan Peterson; two brothers, George DeWitt and Stanley DeWitt; and a step sister, Rose Burress. He is survived by his son, Terry (Linda) DeWitt of Rineyville; a daughter, Sandra (Randy) Ray of Elizabethtown; two step sons Patrick (Theresa) Craig of Louisville and Anthony (Cindy) Craig of Glasgow; a step brother, John Peterson of Deland, FL; two step sisters, Mary Lou (Clinton) Bower of Vine Grove and Jean (Jim) Abbott of Paisley, FL; a brother in law, Coleman Burress; five grandchildren, Jenny Ray Wright, Kristen Ray, Brennan Ray, Tracy DeWitt Bewley, and Jeffrey DeWitt; five step grandchildren, Blake Craig, Chesney Craig, Emily Peterson, Brian Clear, and Kameron Devin Williams; and three great grandchildren, Celia Bewley, Sadie Wright, and Brady Bewley. The funeral is at 11 a.m. Thursday at Valley View Baptist Church with Rev. Christian Burton officiating. Burial follows at Vine Grove City Cemetery. Visitation is from 4-8 p.m. Wednesday at Brown Funeral Home and continues after 9 a.m. Thursday at the church. Expressions of sympathy may take the form of donations to Valley View Baptist Church.
