James Calvin Sarver

James Calvin Sarver, 89, of Stephensburg died Wednesday, Aug.26, 2015 at his residence. He was a native of Hardin County, an avid member of Summit United Methodist Church and was retired from civil service after 37 years. He was a Master Mason, a 60 year member of Stephenburg Mason Lodge No. 212 F&AM, a life member of American Legion Hardin Post No. 113, and was assistant fire chief, engineer and treasurer for the Stephensburg Volunteer Fire Department. He was a veteran of World War II and received two Purple Hearts with one Oak Leaf Cluster, E.A.M.E. Campaign Medal with two bronze battle btars, combat infantryman's badge, American theater ribbon, victory ribbon, good conduct medal and French Legion of Honor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Velma Louise Sarver, in April; a son, Dr. James Michael Sarver; his parents, John and Nancy Jane Hack Sarver; two brothers, Charles Sarver and Bradley Sarver; two half sisters, Lillian and Rene; and his step father, Davner Hudson. He is survived by two sons, Robert Sarver and his fiancee Lahoma Gray of Stephensburg and Butch (Carla) Sarver of White Mills; a daughter, Debbie (Dennis) Fulkerson of White Mills; seven grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren, and four great great grandchildren. The funeral is at 2 pm Saturday at Summit United Methodist Church with the Rev. Kenneth Jesse officiating. Burial follows with military honors in Stephensburg Cemetery. Visitation is from 3 to 8 pm Friday and continues at 9 am Saturday at Brown Funeral Home in Elizabethtown. A masonic service is at 7 pm Friday Condolences may be expressed at www.brownfuneral.com.
