| LTC Retired Dwight F. Pelkey, 80 of Elizabethtown, died Monday, February 15, 2010 at Hardin Memorial Hospital.
He was a native of Willsboro, NY. He was one of the original male nurses commissioned in the Army Nurse Corp., was a CRNA, a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and trained at Walter Reed Army Hospital. He retired from the Army after 23 years of service. After military retirement, Lt. Col. worked at Hardin Memorial Hospital in the anesthesia department, retiring in 1996. He was a member of the Elizabethtown Lions Club, where he served as Assistant Treasurer for a few years. He was also a member of the Massena, NY Masonic Lodge. He had a part in the movie Elizabethtown.
He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Alice Basmajian Pelkey; two children, David Pelkey of Brookville, OH and Debra Anderson of Carrizzo, NM; four grandsons, Ryne Anderson, Evan Anderson, Rodney Pelkey, currently serving in the Navy in Japan, and Matthew Pelkey, a Marine; one brother, Rev. Lyman Pelkey of PA and one sister, Fortana May Walsh of NY.
The funeral will be Thursday at 1 p.m. at Brown Funeral Home with Rev. Kent Litchfield officiating.
Burial will be in Pine Grove Cemetery in Norfolk, NY.
Visitation will be from 5 to 8 p.m. Wednesday and continue after 9 a.m. Thursday at the funeral home.
